Our Ceramic Techniques

Wheel Throwing

The ancient art of shaping clay on a spinning wheel. This technique allows us to create perfectly symmetrical vessels with smooth walls and elegant curves. Each piece begins as a centered lump of clay that is gradually pulled and shaped into its final form.

  • Trimming & Finishing

Underglaze Painting

We apply colored underglazes to bisque-fired pottery using fine brushes and sponges. This technique allows for intricate designs, from delicate botanical illustrations to bold geometric patterns, all sealed beneath a clear protective glaze.

  • Brush Painting Techniques
  • Sgraffito (Scratch Design)
  • Resist Methods
  • Layering Colors

Glazing Mastery

Our custom glaze formulations create stunning finishes from glossy and smooth to matte and textured. We carefully apply glazes by dipping, pouring, or brushing to achieve the perfect finish for each piece.

  • Glaze Layering
  • Wax Resist Patterns

High-Temperature Firing

Our kiln reaches temperatures of 2200°F (1200°C) to vitrify the clay and melt the glazes into a durable, glass-like surface. This process transforms fragile greenware into functional art that can last generations.

Caring for Your Ceramics

While most pieces are dishwasher safe, we recommend hand washing with mild soap and warm water to preserve the hand-painted details. Avoid abrasive scrubbers that might scratch the glaze. Dry thoroughly before storing.

Our ceramics are microwave and oven safe up to 350°F. Avoid extreme temperature changes (like removing from refrigerator directly to oven) to prevent thermal shock. Always use oven mitts when handling hot ceramics.

Stack plates with soft cloth or paper towels between to prevent scratching. Store cups upright rather than nested. Display decorative pieces away from edges where they might be knocked over. Handle with care as ceramic can chip if dropped.

For coffee or tea stains, soak in a solution of baking soda and warm water for several hours. For stubborn stains, a paste of baking soda applied with a soft cloth can help. Always rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
